Doctrine (from Latin: doctrina, meaning 'teaching, instruction') is a codification of beliefs or a body of teachings or instructions, taught principles or positions, as the essence of teachings in a given branch of knowledge or in a belief system. The etymological Greek analogue is 'catechism'.[1]
Doctrine is the way we understand and teach the key messages revealed in the Bible. These teachings have evolved from the Old Testament and find their fulfillment in the life, words, and work of Jesus Christ, as noted in Matthew 7:28, Mark 1:22, and John 7:16. The apostles, especially Paul, further expanded and applied Jesus' teachings, aligning them with Jesus' own message (e.g., Romans 16:25 and 1 Thessalonians 4:2). Under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, these teachings were recorded and are now preserved within the biblical canon.
